[Welcome a new guest in London!
Fran has been here all of two days and is already being paid. The work is...not what she would really like to be doing. In fact, it's a little demeaning to her skills. One of the shadier entertainment houses - the type that caters to the weird, freakish and occult - saw her walking by after she arrived and promptly snapped her up. Fran, being herself, doesn't really care.
It means she's sitting outside of the building at a sort of desk with a sign next to it proclaiming about her strange abilities and medical insights. Basically, she's free advertising. Really she's just supposed to say something vague and tell people to go inside.
So she sits at the table and stares off into space like a good patchwork girl. Always in a daze, head propped up in her hand and swaying just a little. Busy in her own world but bored, too.]

What a perfect analogy! Devotion to scientific pursuits should be nothing short of love! Skill and experience are parts but without putting your heart into it, you can't push yourself to your full potential. In the same sense, a human being can't be at their full potential in life without a driven heart.
no subject
Exactly, exactly! Love is truly the most beautiful and terrible emotion. The strength of it can drive people to the greatest extremes. To build amazing things! To cause great destruction! To invent or to learn, truly the motivation of love can't ever be underestimated.

[And they walk to his home like this. Best buddies already, right?]
Oh! [Tangent!] I assume you do need to eat? Or is that erroneous on my part?
no subject
And rolls right with the tangent.]
I do, yes! All in all, despite the unique properties of my body, I still require the basic demands of life. Eating and sleeping are necessary. Even I get worn out after a long surgery. I am more durable in general.
no subject
I thought that might be the case. Do you cook? I don't mind cooking at all. My usual roommate has a unique sense of taste, so I'm often the cook. I currently have a live-in patient for the time that might want to sample your cooking though.
Well, he's a terrible kind of shady person, and basically someone you wouldn't ever want to get to know, but if you can put up with his personality... Actually I can't think of any good points to say about him. He can be insightful though. But I'm afraid you'll have to put up with him until he's healed enough.

[As far as Izaya is concerned...Fran smiles.]
I'm sure he's an interesting specimen of a person, if he really doesn't have good qualities. Even the worst criminal I had the pleasure of experimenting on had a wonderful quality. [That he was immortal and she could do anything to him but--] But I rarely meet people I dislike. Maybe he'll challenge my views! How interesting.
no subject
I'm fond of him myself, but he really is an awful person. If you're lucky you won't interest him at all.
I don't mind cooking for the most part in any case. I'm quite used to it.

Saying all that, I'm hardly a model of a decent citizen myself. If you're going to stay with me, you should be aware I'm an unlicensed doctor working with shady people on a daily basis. I am very good at what I do, of course. And while I'm excited to take you apart, I have no interest in you beyond the scientific. Nor would I want to try to hurt you.
[So... Cheerfully honest. But they are home!]
no subject
Oh, yes. Since we're putting our cards on the table to use a turn of phrase, I should mention one thing. Ahhh, how to put this... [She frowns a little since most people speak a little badly about her! She doesn't want to use their wording.] People have different views on my work than I do. I really don't see how anything should stand in the way of scientific progress, though I do my best to respect etiquette.
But I have one moral I absolutely refuse to break no matter what. I value life above all else. I won't let one pass in my presence. Of course, sometimes circumstances are against me as death is inevitable. But life is all that matters.
[Back to cheerful.] As long as you allow me to uphold that, I think we'll be wonderful friends! Even if you don't, my sisters disagree with it and I respect them anyway.
no subject
I don't mind that at all. Though I have no real deep interest in life myself, it is my professional duty to preserve it. It's remotely possible our goals could conflict on that point, but I highly doubt it.
Besides, I am a romantic. To me there is only one thing worth my devotion, and that's the person I love. She may not be here, but I can certainly understand being devoted wholeheartedly to a single thing.
Conveniently your moral is in line with my business. If the medical schools have no interest--I've never had an assistant but I could certainly give the concept a try. Especially if you're quite good.
no subject
I'm very good. I hope I get the chance to show-off a little. It's so rare that anyone shows this much interest, it would be a disservice to the professor's hard work not to demonstrate my capabilities.
[Also wiping at her eyes.] Though, to think you devote yourself for love...it's really too touching. Please feel free to request anything of me. I can never turn down requests based in love. That's my own personal creed.
[And then attention span is gone.]
Is your friend resting?
no subject
[He really wants to tease Shinra about cheating on Celty with another monster. Instead, he smiles a polite and pleasant smile that refreshingly welcomes everything it sees.]
Welcome home, Shinra.
[He steps out fully, which he manages well enough, all things considered, and respectfully greets Fran.] Please forgive me if I'm intruding. I didn't realize Shinra was bringing home a guest. I'm Izaya Orihara. Shinra's been taking care of me for a few days. I can excuse myself if you two would like to speak privately.
no subject
[And then... No he's not even surprised you're up Izaya. It's probably not even the bad thing it'd be for any normal patient. He just sighs and goes to put the groceries on the counter.]
You shouldn't be out of bed yet.
[Useless to tell him. Izaya does what he wants. Why does he bother?] I'm not going to stop you if you want to go. Of course, you've been intruding for the last several days to begin with, so I don't see why you'd bother changing that now.
no subject
You sound like you have a relaxed friendship. My name is Fran Madaraki. It's very nice to meet you! Shinra happened to make a lucky find and it was lucky for me, too, since it means somewhere to stay and people to meet! Though I was hoping you were a bit more terrible but he did say you can be polite and kind. Ah, that could go for most people thinking about it... It's human nature.
no subject
If you truly want to throw me out of the house, Shinra, I can't do anything to stop you but plot revenge.
[Friendship!]
Are you a student of human nature, Madaraki-san? Such insights are rare from those who aren't. [So polite. And still smiling at her like that.]
no subject
[Welp, those two are bonding. He won't make Fran cook, maybe breakfast. In the meantime, off goes the lab coat, on goes the apron.]
Would you check his wound? If he's been up and about and reopened it, you're free to tend him on your own. I'd like to see you at work.
[Offering his friend to a mad scientist, why not?]
no subject
Will you please show me your wound? Though you're very flattering. I don't think I'm quite that insightful. Due to the nature of my work, I need a thorough understanding of humanity and their wants and needs. In that respect, I'm still a student learning.
no subject
It isn't remotely angry. It's just a statement of fact. Then, obligingly, he pushes aside his shirt to show the wound.]
Thank you, Madaraki-san. It's my honour to be in your care. [His language will continue to be respectful and polite until he decides it will stop.] The injury isn't so bad, and it has recovered quickly enough. My heart wasn't touched.
no subject
[La la la housewife time. He's a good housewife.]
no subject
[Well you can but whatever. Fran reaches into her cloak and takes out a small vial. She wets a swab without what's inside and dabs it lightly near the wound.]
Not that you should continue to push yourself but at least now it won't slow the healing needlessly.

Maybe he'll listen to a cute girl more than he will to me. [Yeah right, he knows that's not going to happen.]
