[Welcome a new guest in London!

Fran has been here all of two days and is already being paid. The work is...not what she would really like to be doing. In fact, it's a little demeaning to her skills. One of the shadier entertainment houses - the type that caters to the weird, freakish and occult - saw her walking by after she arrived and promptly snapped her up. Fran, being herself, doesn't really care.

It means she's sitting outside of the building at a sort of desk with a sign next to it proclaiming about her strange abilities and medical insights. Basically, she's free advertising. Really she's just supposed to say something vague and tell people to go inside.

So she sits at the table and stares off into space like a good patchwork girl. Always in a daze, head propped up in her hand and swaying just a little. Busy in her own world but bored, too.]

[And then... No he's not even surprised you're up Izaya. It's probably not even the bad thing it'd be for any normal patient. He just sighs and goes to put the groceries on the counter.]

You shouldn't be out of bed yet.

[Useless to tell him. Izaya does what he wants. Why does he bother?] I'm not going to stop you if you want to go. Of course, you've been intruding for the last several days to begin with, so I don't see why you'd bother changing that now.

[Fran just gives a small wave to Izaya after he gets lectured.]

You sound like you have a relaxed friendship. My name is Fran Madaraki. It's very nice to meet you! Shinra happened to make a lucky find and it was lucky for me, too, since it means somewhere to stay and people to meet! Though I was hoping you were a bit more terrible but he did say you can be polite and kind. Ah, that could go for most people thinking about it... It's human nature.

[Shinraaaa you suck. See if he helps you with groceries, then! Also he conveniently slumps down into a chair because Shinra's right. He shouldn't be out and about. He's just borreeeeed.]

If you truly want to throw me out of the house, Shinra, I can't do anything to stop you but plot revenge.

[Friendship!]

Are you a student of human nature, Madaraki-san? Such insights are rare from those who aren't. [So polite. And still smiling at her like that.]

It'd be a waste if you died before paying your bill. [Also he might be sad if Izaya died? Though that is rather debatable. Friendship! He starts setting the groceries out.]

[Welp, those two are bonding. He won't make Fran cook, maybe breakfast. In the meantime, off goes the lab coat, on goes the apron.]

Would you check his wound? If he's been up and about and reopened it, you're free to tend him on your own. I'd like to see you at work.

[Offering his friend to a mad scientist, why not?]

[Fran nods to Shinra and walks lightly closer to Izaya.]

Will you please show me your wound? Though you're very flattering. I don't think I'm quite that insightful. Due to the nature of my work, I need a thorough understanding of humanity and their wants and needs. In that respect, I'm still a student learning.

[Izaya smiles at Shinra. It's a smile that says, quite simply: You, as a human being, are completely despicable.

It isn't remotely angry. It's just a statement of fact. Then, obligingly, he pushes aside his shirt to show the wound.]

Thank you, Madaraki-san. It's my honour to be in your care. [His language will continue to be respectful and polite until he decides it will stop.] The injury isn't so bad, and it has recovered quickly enough. My heart wasn't touched.

[Shinra smiles back, because he doesn't care and it's not like you have room to talk Izaya. And half concentrating on preparing food, half concentrating on Fran and Izaya.]

[La la la housewife time. He's a good housewife.]

[Looking closer, Fran tuts.] It is healing very well but it looks like you've been aggravating it. Shinra is right but I guess you can't really a force a patient to behave.

[Well you can but whatever. Fran reaches into her cloak and takes out a small vial. She wets a swab without what's inside and dabs it lightly near the wound.]

Not that you should continue to push yourself but at least now it won't slow the healing needlessly.

[His smile, if anything, is something worth being called 'boyish.' It is only half-apologetic, more filled with playful light-heartedness.] Sorry, Madaraki-sensei. I'm afraid that I have such a peaceful and ordinary lifestyle that I couldn't take lying down for very long after the exciting event.

[Should Shinra laugh at this point? He instead hums to himself as he chops things.]

Maybe he'll listen to a cute girl more than he will to me. [Yeah right, he knows that's not going to happen.]

Oh, no one really listens to me very well. I doubt he will.

[Still she puts the vial back into her cloak and smiles.] I find it hard to believe you mean that but your expression really is cute. Shinra, maybe that could be a redeeming feature? Aesthetics have an important role in life.

Since it was a cute girl who stabbed me, I've decided not to underestimate their words.

{There's a momentary glance at Shinra, because oh Shinra, do you always have to introduce him as 'that shitty person with a horrible personality'? Come on. But then back to looking at Fran.] I've been told before that I have a refreshing and welcoming nature.

I don't think I'm qualified to comment on his looks. Well, objectively he's probably what women would find handsome. Actually, objectively he's probably very attractive. I'd be jealous, if the girl I liked had any interest in a guy like him.

Then again he still takes up a lot of her time. Wouldn't it be normal to be jealous in that situation?

[Yes wandering off wondering if he should be jealous just for the sake of it.]

You do have a very welcoming smile. I agree with Shinra's objective opinion. Naturally, it varies from person to person but certain facial structures and features have a broader appeal.

[Also dwelling on Shinra's thought.]

Jealousy can be a welcome emotion in some relationships. It makes one's partner feel appreciated and wanted.

I've been told I'm too good-looking for my own good. [And his hand strays to his stomach where the last knife wound cut without killing.

Well, even if he hadn't died, that superior (and showy) move from Yodogiri Jinnai has made its scar. Compared to that other attack, this one, which could easily have been more dangerous, isn't frightening. Actually, it's a bit of a relief here. Shizuo is distracted, Celty's head isn't there like a sword hanging over him, Yodogiri's a long way away. And on every corner, there's a way to cheat death. Even after the stabbing, he feels pretty great.]

It's a pretty cheap sort of jealousy if you stir it up for two people who don't even have any real interest in each other.

You likely are. Beauty can attract all sorts of trouble. [And then he laughs at the jealousy bit.] Probably. But I'll do anything, even if it's cheap, if it makes her blush.

[Throwing various things into a pan, cooking is la la la, fun time.]

[Fran watches Izaya curiously for a long moment but in the end just smiles.]

Most jealousy is based on miscommunication or preconceived notions that don't match the reality of the situation. Stirring it like that amounts to the same scenario.

If we're talking about preconceived notions, this guy isn't going to have any trouble with jealousy.

[also fails to notice the noticing because stupid sometimes and this is one of those times]

My only concern is being jealous of you might upset her. It's fine to be jealous of Shizuo since she likes him, but it might be insulting to be jealous of you.

[What a puzzle!]

A social scientist like Izaya should be able to answer that. I'm more of a researcher that tailors my knowledge to a particular client. It helps to have an understanding of human nature when you may be working with difficult people. Ahh, one time I underestimated how ruthless a client was and it was bothersome! But that's life. You two understand the situation best.

Shinra's girlfriend isn't included in my area of interest. He can work her out herself. [Not even elaborating.]

Maybe I'll ask her if she likes my jealous side when I see her. Then again, it's not as if I could help my jealousy in certain situations anyway. It'd be too easy for people to fall in love with her if they got to know her.

[Yep off in his own little world again, don't mind him.]

[Smiling serenely as she watches Shinra, then turns back to Izaya.]

Do you dislike his girlfriend so strongly?

It's not like that. Celty is a great person and definitely better than Shinra deserves. [Because Celty wouldn't compare him to Shizuo like that--] It's like putting a really cool, competent, kind woman with a really clingy, useless, ruthless guy. Though Shizu-chan's a much better match for her on more than one level...

[Shinra nods in agreement to Izaya's words about Celty.] That doesn't even begin to describe all her good sides! But even if that's all true, the idea of putting her with Shizuo is awful. I wonder if I should poison your food for that? I could at least leave you hallucinating for a few days and it would give me a bit of peace.
