Just one wish for a miracle Repeated the tragedies
[There is nothing unusual about today, except maybe some nicer than average weather. It means being outside isn't a lung hazard and thus a good enough day for walking around. Mikado has already done a lot of research on business - and Lion has done her own amount - but more isn't going to hurt anything. The more the better.
Though not all of Lion's focus is on that. Some of it is still lingering on some books she read last night. They referenced yet another few that would be good to read for background and well, Lion has been devouring books lately. Even the business isn't enough distraction.
So possibly in the middle of conversation, with her thoughts scattered, Lion turns to Mikado.] Would you mind if we made a stop first? It isn't very far.

I don't mind at all. What is it? Did you remember something?

[Turning down a different street, she points at a large church at the end of the road.]
no subject
[There's a clear question in his voice that he's not saying aloud. What books does she need from there?]
no subject
[As they walk, Lion reaches into her bag and pulls out a notebook and flips it open. She holds it out for Mikado to see. There are masses of notes that likely make no sense, comparing strange things to vaguely familiar things that she and Will have talked about to him.]
I want to find a method to translate the magic and other abilities from home using the rules of magic here. Then Will can use his own abilities and I could learn defensive magic to protect myself.
no subject
That seems like a good idea, actually. Is it going well?
no subject
Well enough. Naturally, Will wants to monitor my progress closely due to my nature. But I only want to learn enough to defend myself. I don't want to leave the house wondering if I'll need someone to save me. Several types of magic I can think of are good for defending.
[Lion tugs open the church's door and walks softer. Well, it is a church, even if she doesn't exactly think there's much holy about it. No need to be loud and rude.]
no subject
What kind of magic? I don't really know much about magic in the first place, except a little I've seen at home and what you and Will have told me.
no subject
Witches have different types. But one example I'm working towards are barriers. Shannon was able to create them around herself and others. It holds out as long as you can. Advanced barriers can counterattack, too, or expand further out to push away attackers.

[Lion starts checking some bookshelves that are deeper into the church but she's pretty sure she'll need to ask again for what she wants.]
I think as long as I stay away from magic that witches could use, I'll be fine. I only want to be able to defend myself like the others can...
no subject
[The bookshelves are bare of anything Lion could possibly want.]
no subject
Are you interested in learning for yourself, too, Mikado-san? Even Will admits magic isn't a bad thing.
no subject
I might... I'm not sure I'd be good at it. It wouldn't hurt to learn more about it, at least.
no subject
[Which is when a voice pops in.] Your attitude still lacks some respect...
[Apparently they've been followed by an older gentleman, specifically one Lion has met before from the familiarity of it. She even smiles at him and it isn't unpleasant or forced.] Good afternoon, Matthis. I'm sorry for bothering you once again but we request access to the archives.
[Matthis sighs. There's no point in arguing with her, so he just beckons them to follow him down some totally not foreboding, narrow passages.] I see the Chosen must be busy today. Though, are you encouraging someone else to pursue forbidden knowledge? [He glances at Mikado for an answer.]
no subject
[Mikado half bows in a respectful and habitual gesture to the older man. He follows as the other two head on, looking a little lost until he's addressed directly, and then for a moment he seems stumped. He only just started considering it, forbidden knowledge? Shouldn't all knowledge be free?]
[The Chosen...? But he should answer the question.]
Eh...? U-um... I was interested, yes.
no subject
[Lion gently clears her throat.] Thank you for the concern but Mikado-san and I only want to learn to protect ourselves. We appreciate the offer.
[Unlocking a large, heavy wooden door, Matthis looks back to them.] Of course. I'm certain the Church of Martel is gracious to you both. If you'll excuse me.
[With a nod to them both, Matthis heads back down the hall, just grateful he didn't have to deal with loud stupid skirt chasers.]
no subject
[Mikado really doesn't get it but he bows again. Matthis doesn't seem like a bad person, so why doesn't he want them to learn.]
Thank you!
[But what's with mentioning another church? Oh well. He joins Lion in the room.]
What are we looking for, exactly?
no subject
[She picks up one of the smaller candle holders to look through the books better.]
What type of magic do you think you would want to learn...? I don't think you would be under the same restrictions as I am, so you could probably learn anything you wanted.
no subject
[He takes a shelf across from Lion and looks as well, thinking about her question.]
Are there limits? I really don't know much about magic. But I think... I'd want to consider it.
no subject
[Lion does try to think what sort of magic would suit Mikado. But she's always learning new things about him...
Oh, but maybe...]
...Maybe the magic of origins would suit you. Maria-chan used that. Creating something out of nothing, which is to say, in a sea of zero, she could create a one. She created her own friends by giving life to her stuffed animals. In essence, she was able to create a universe.
no subject
[He's pretty sure any magic would bother Will but he said he wouldn't comment on that. So he'll just ask Will later. And the 'origin' magic sounds interesting.]
Maria-chan?
That... I really do like the sound of it. But can you really do that? It defied physics. But then again, creating something of nothing, that's kind of exciting too.
no subject
[Must take every chance to talk about her family and how she loves them. And then back to looking and thinking.]
But miracles... Bernkastel is the Witch of Miracles. Though, I try not to think about that. Even if she is, I'm happy to be a miracle. As far as Origins go, it's very possible. Maybe not by science but if you can create your own universe, then the physics would be what you wanted, right? Maria-chan believed in rainbows that became candy, for example.
no subject
I understand. Believing makes things real, with magic, right? So as long as I could believe in my own creations, they would be real without a doubt.
Though I think that would also be harder than it sounds. Even for tangible groups, you can feel doubt and uncertainty. Holding belief in your heart unwaveringly is difficult.
no subject
[Idly, as she pulls a book down to flip through it out of curiosity.]
Beatrice acknowledged Maria-chan's creations as real. Together they had a universe where they had no doubts or fears. To put it in romantic terms...if I love Will and never do anything to deepen a relationship with him, I have a universe in my heart that's too heavy for me alone. Eventually it might collapse or twist into something I can bear. But if I tell him and he loves me, too, then that love is acknowledged and real. It's no longer something only I hold but held and nurtured between us. And if we tell everyone that we share feelings and they see us together, they acknowledge it, too. More people agree it is truth and so it is real.

When I moved to Ikekuburo... I don't think I would have been able to adapt to the city or my fears if not for Masaomi. He really supported me. In that way I definitely understand. Without someone to share your thoughts and experiences with, magic or not, it's no good anyway, right? People aren't really meant to be alone.
