[So Jeff is in Lion's shop, checking out the new jeans material. It's an awesome material, unlike scratchy wigs or horrible robes. It's seriously super awesome. He touches it.] This denim is really comfortable. Soft to the touch, but probably as durable as it is sturdy. [Unlike those stupid robes.] Where do you get it?

[Lion is sitting down doing number crunching, because it's easy to do while talking and thus good if Jeff is around.] The basics were imported from America. That's far too rough, though. So I spoke with some tailors in a Japanese niche in the East End. They ended up producing that. I'm really quite satisfied with it.

It's really nice. I couldn't wear it in a court of law, but I'd be willing to buy... [There is a brief moment of tangible pain as he remembers that he. He can't wear them in a court of law. Because robes.]

[No, Jeff. You're stronger than this! He smiles for Lion] They're great. How much are you looking to charge for them?

[Lion glances up. Caught that but unsure how to or even if it's meant to be called out.]

I'm still working on the figures but I wanted to sell them for cheaper at first just for circulation. Of course, I haven't actually done an official order yet but someone willing to help me getting the fitting style right would get my gratitude.

[bedheaded]

[He smiles at her more!] Well, if you're asking for a volunteer, you've got your man. I could have been a model but I wanted to... practice law... [FOCUS FOCUS there is AMAZING DENIM HERE and he can get discount prices on awesome custom made fashion! How cool is that!]

[He turns his back to Lion and covers his face in his hand. It's not fair.]

[Lion pauses in her writing. Jeff is upset. Clothes aren't helping. ...What do.

No, really. Lion thinks this is the time you comfort someone but...

How do you do that?] ...Are the outfits that bad? I've never really looked closely.

[bedheaded]

They're beautiful. [He is using that carefully controlled voice that people call on when they're trying not to sound like they're about to cry.] All of your clothes are beautiful. Well. That trendy future stuff is a little weird, but I'd love to wear your Italian suit in the lightweight woven wool-mohair blend to court.

[llywelin]

[Oh god. Lion pauses. Well, she's the worst person to have breakdowns at. Will is the heart reader, Lion is the only who nodded in confusion.] Well, ah. Maybe it won't be so bad or...you could talk to someone about getting changes made...?

[bedheaded]

It's stupid! [He turns around, and now he is shrugging it off, all irritated and why should I care and they're idiots.] What do the clothes matter? Isn't the law what's important here? So what if I want to come to court wearing a soft wool-angora blend with faint pinstripes that makes me look really cool? I should have that right! The only thing that should qualify or disqualify me is the strength of my argument! They don't give the law the respect it deserves, and that makes them the real criminals.

[llywelin]

[Lion is faintly impressed by how Jeff turns 'clothes don't matter' around to 'my choice in clothes thus matters.'

But at least he doesn't look like he's going to cry now, which is an improvement, and thus encouraged.]

They would probably argue the uniform nature of the outfits means the law gets the most focus. It's the same argument used for school uniforms or other strict dress codes.

[It isn't her opinion but he is lawyer. So coming up with arguments against it should be distracting enough.]

[bedheaded]

[He scoffs.] The same argument that's used to choke the life out of school children everywhere. In my country, they call it oppression, or communism, or what the terrorists what. It depends on the year. No matter what you call it, not only does that attitude oppose what I stand for, it opposes what all humans should stand for: the celebration on life. In a world where we are dwarfed by the existence of cosmic beings, in a world where humans can truly realize why they don't matter, then it is all the more important for us to express ourselves as vibrantly and as freely as possible. Only through that ironic, self-defeating gesture can we pay real tribute to the Great Ones that have brought us this enlightenment.

[Jeff pauses and frowns, tapping his chin.] I need to work on that one. It started in the wrong place. I need a real line-through on the cosmic insignificance thing.

[llywelin]

[Lion ponders that.] Ah, I don't know if it would work but...if the idea is insignificance of humans, picking something small to celebrate it with might work. Holidays are usually for the Old Ones, so something small for humans?

[She shrugs a little helplessly. She is only a lvl. 5 in logic battles okay. Jeff is easily ten levels higher here.]

[bedheaded]

Is there anything these people value? Some of them are even less homophobic than people I know a hundred years in the future. This much lack of value is hard to work with.

[llywelin]

They value values. [Somewhat amused at her own wording but it's true.] Charity is the biggest. Family, though some of it ties into those more disturbing aspects of things. Education for both genders, even if it isn't entirely equal, is still much better than it should be here.

[She tries to think what ties it together.] ...Respect? Respecting the lives of others and living a good life, insignificant as it might be. I suppose it's human nature to want to be happy regardless of the situation.

[bedheaded]

[He leans back and folds his arm.] I can work with it.

[llywelin]

[Curious.] Can it get you what you want?

[bedheaded]

By using it, I can get myself what I want. That's what a lawyer relies on.

[llywelin]

That's quite impressive. I suppose the rule goes it doesn't matter how absurd an argument is as long as it works?

[bedheaded]

Uhm, ouch. You might want to try putting a bit more faith in the legal system than that.

[llywelin]

[She laughs.] No, it's not that, exactly. It's, ah...something from home. I guess you could call it a very odd sort of debate club.

[bedheaded]

Yeah? What kind?

[llywelin]

Ah, murder mysteries with a sort of twist. A witch creates seemingly impossible murders and asks how a human could have done them. If you can't think of a way, then it must have been magic.

[bedheaded]

Wow, that's an amazing cop-out. I could have spent half as much time defending my clients with that.

[llywelin]

[She snorts.] No, it's much more difficult than that. I could never play that side of the debate. I'm barely any good at the human side of it. Being able to think up crazy arguments and make them work is part of the problem. I'm too practical.

[bedheaded]

[He is clearly disappointed.] Lame. I guess I'll pass on playing.

[llywelin]

[Laughing softly.] Is that another asset of a lawyer? Being able to find the shortest path?

[bedheaded]

I don't know what you mean. But I do know that I need to research the history of dress codes in British law and find myself work as a consultant in the meantime. It's a shame. I really did impressive work on the courtroom floor. London will just have to wait.

[llywelin]

Well, we both agree the law is what matters, but making a grand entrance in your own way would certainly be impressive.

[bedheaded]

Establishing character moments are important tools in the legal world. [If only Abed were here. Jeff would really put a show on for him.]
