[So that was a weird dream. Not really bad but kind of disturbing. A lot of it centered on Kida's friend, the one that Aoba likes, and their adventures with Aoba's gang. And also stuff with Kida and chat and general shenanigans. Some of it were memories Mairu definitely recalls, like those people trying to kidnap her and Kururi and the courier being hired by her brother to stop them.]

[But now that she thinks about the other stuff, Kida's friend is pretty scary. She wasn't actually around for those events, but as far as she knows the dream wasn't any more off from the truth about them than it was about her own memories. Half sitting up, sleepy, she turns around and lays her head back against Kida's chest.]

[Then sits bolt up right to look down at him, because she realizes maybe a lot of that was really disturbing. Kida looked unhappy at certain points, like when his friend lit that guy on fire and told him to leave, or told chat he wouldn't be around for a while.]

[Kida had been staring at the ceiling, still trying to get those images out of his mind. It wasn't real, he kept telling himself. It wasn't real the same way that Mikado being responsible for what happened to Saki wasn't real, even if it was the voice he heard at the end of that call whenever he dreamed about it in this place. This was why he had been avoiding sleep, and now he knew he wasn't wrong.]

[Kida sniffed, and then realized Mairu was there and he was awake. He smiled up at her, because he really hated seeing anyone have a worried look.] What's up?

Are you okay?

[Mairu's pretty direct about everything, so she pokes his cheek a little and looks generally watchful, if not traditionally concerned.]

Those were bad memories, right?

Yeah, yeah. [Kida didn't mind the poking and just nodded, not really paying attention. As he processed her second question he quickly shook his head] I mean yeah to being all right. The other stuff wasn't real at all, just a bad dream. Just like that stuff it showed with those people trying to hurt you and Kururi-chan was just a bad dream.

...Eh? But that all happened.

[Kida looks alarmed, but tries to cover it up quickly] Oh. I guess they do that sometimes to confuse other things. Like, if they do a few things that really happened it will trick us into believing the rest. I mean, it would take a lot to make anyone think Mikado would lead the Blue Squares, never mind the rest of those things.

...Senpai... Ryugamine-senpai and Aoba-kun do lead the Blue Squares. You've been out of touch for a while, right? Well, I mean it's not like Kuru-nee and I are involved personally, but we keep informed. Especially since it's Aoba-kun.

[Kida laughed bitterly and started talking before he could stop himself] What's so great about this Aoba-kun person? You and Mikado can't stop going on about him ever. [Jealous? No way. It's just annoying to hear about this person all the time] But Mikado wouldn't do something like that, especially with the Blue Squares. He just wouldn't. You must be misinformed.

[Mairu immediately gets annoyed, sitting up and hitting Kida's chest lightly.]

Don't talk bad about Aoba-kun. [That smile won't allow it.] I won't like it.

[And because he upset her she's less concerned and more annoyed.]

Of course I'm not misinformed. I don't really care what they do, but they definitely lead the Blue Squares and there's definitely nasty rumors about violence.

[Kida is annoyed now, too, as he rolls out of bed and heads for the bathroom] I don't really care what you say about it. I know Mikado and I know he wouldn't do that sort of thing. It's probably just that Aoba person and Mikado just got mixed up in it somehow. That dream thing just exaggerated the details you all ready knew. [he goes in the bathroom and slams the door shut behind him]

Jerk! I'm not a liar!

[Mairu hops off the bed and, ignoring trying to get properly dressed, goes to angrily put on her shoes. She can storm off in a huff too, just as well as Kida can!]

And Mikado isn't that type of person from that dream. [Kida shouted through the closed door, because he's mature that way. He turns the water on before moving back to the door, letting his body slip down until he's seated on the floor, his knees pulled up to his chest and his forehead resting against his knees. Every time he closed his eyes he saw those images from those dreams. He sniffed again, wiping his eyes in annoyance as he realized he was crying]

[banging on the door and yelling in annoyance to cover up his tears and make himself pull it together] So stop saying things like that about Mikado, and don't talk about that Aoba person at all while you're at it. He's almost as bad as that brother of yours.

[Mairu makes a noise of anger and stomps to the bathroom door, banging on it from her side.]

Take it back! [She's upset, because she can't recall ever being in a fight with a friend, she doesn't have friends, maybe Akane-chan, and Kida's a huge jerk anyway, she's so mad!]

Even if Aoba-kun isn't a saint, he's not like Iza-nii! Take it back! You're the one with the psycho friend!

[Kida banged on the door harshly right back]

No, you're right, you're right. He's ten times worse than Izaya-san. I'd rather spend eternity with Izaya-san than ever have to know that stupid Aoba kid.

[That hurts and she's angry. She kicks the door viciously.]

Fine! I hope you and Iza-nii rot and have a miserable life together with your stupid awful friend! Aoba-kun never stabbed my friend you know! Maybe you and Ryugamine-senpai can have fun lighting people on fire and beating them up with Iza-nii.

I bet you're a sadist like that too, huh? I'm leaving! I don't want to be caught by your sadist friend if I'm here! I don't want to stick around and listen to you badmouth Aoba-kun, you jerk! Asshole!

[If she's crying it's definitely angry tears. Because she is so angry! That's the only reason.]

If any of that is even true, that Aoba is even worse. He actually liked getting stabbed. What kind of masochistic psychopath likes that kind of thing and then encourages it?

[a huff, banging his fist against the door again] That is if any of it were true in the first place. Which it's not. Except for the parts about that Aoba bastard being the worst.

Shut up! Shut up!

[Another vicious kick at the door and Mairu's voice raises an octave.]

Aoba-kun stood up for Kuru-nee. No one else would! Even if he did it on a whim, he's not like other people! He doesn't care what we're like!

I thought you were different too, but you're not! You're just an asshole like everyone else! Screw you, senpai! Go have fun with your psychotic boyfriend who beats people up for fun! See how fast he dumps you when he doesn't need you any more, because he's that kind of cold bastard! I won't care even if you cry! I don't care! Go to hell!

[And she turns on her heel and heads for the door, wiping furiously at her eyes.]

[That would be when the door opens in time for Ange to catch a crying kid. Which is immediately recognised as not good and she has no idea what is going on but crying Mairu is not good.]

M-Mairu-chan...? [Concerned big sister/mother mode engaged.]

[Kida hears Ange, and retreats further into the bathroom, turning the water up in the sink so he doesn't have to listen to either of them as he sits in the bathtub now]

[Mairu stops, buries her head into Ange's chest, and makes a distressed noise of anger before pulling away again.]

I'm leaving! You should too, Ange-nee! Senpai associates with sociopaths! You'll get hurt or killed or something!

[What the hell happens when she leaves you two alone. Ange frowns and shakes her head.]

Hang on, just...don't go anywhere yet. What did Masaomi-kun do? Who's a sociopath?

I don't want to stay here! He's in the bathroom, probably beating off to thoughts of his stupid boyfriend. Ryugamine-senpai, the one who lives with nii-san. He's crazy!

[fffff. Ange takes takes Mairu's hand and calls out to the bathroom.] I need some air. Just a couple of minutes.

[Hoping Kida is all right but she needs to take care of storming child first and she knows this sort of mood.]

All right. Let's go for a walk and tell me everything, because I seriously don't have a clue.

[Mairu doesn't pull away, because as furious and hurt as she is, it's Ange. So she goes with her on the walk, alternating between furious stomping and crying as she explains.]

Senpai and I have trouble sleeping so he got something for us to try. And we took a nap. But it just seemed to give weird memories of back home, mostly stuff about Aoba-kun and Ryugamine-senpai. And then Kida-senpai got all upset and called them lies, but I know that stuff was real even if I wasn't there for it!

And maybe Aoba-kun isn't nice, but he's nice to me and Kuru-nee! And Ryugamine-senpai is scary and dangerous, but Kida-senpai doesn't care, he'd rather call me a liar and insult Aoba-kun and I hate him. [Even the way she says it it's obvious she's upset, but doesn't hate him.]

He can rot in hell! His friend's a psycho so he has no room to badmouth Aoba-kun.

[Ange can tell that much at least. Even if it was a bad fight, they must be hurt, too, because they've been getting close and something like this...Ange can understand it. She lets Mairu get out her emotions how she wants because it's best that way, just holding her hand through it.]

I think I got it. [Definitely got it but hm, what to do about it?] ...I'm not going to tell you not to be mad at Masaomi-kun. If he badmouthed my brother, even if onii-chan is an idiot and deserves it sometimes, I would still punch him for it. Even if he was right. But it's probably the same for him and Mikado-san. I don't really know that kid well. But...probably, even if Masaomi-kun saw him do something bad, he'd try to view it better.

[Being adult is hard.] ...I understand...really well how you feel. [And how Kida feels but help Mairu first.] Someone told me something that helped, though. Do you want to hear it?

[Mairu doesn't really want to hear reason when she's so upset, so she listens, but sulkily. ]

...Okay...

[She somewhat reluctantly agrees to listen, because being mad can be satisfying and she's still not over that, even if another part of her is scared the fight means she lost a friend, but then again why should she care? Kida sucks.]
